About EMDR-Counseling, PLLC

EMDR-Counseling, PLLC is located in San Antonio, TX.  My goal is to provide a safe and supportive environment for you to work through your issues. I specialize in EMDR therapy, which is an evidence-based treatment for PTSD, trauma, anxiety, and other issues.

My name is Thomas B. Efird (Tom) and I am a licensed clinical social worker-supervisor (LCSW-S), and a certified and approved consultant for EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing).

I am originally from North Carolina.  I started in this field working in substance abuse treatment in 1999.  In 2000, I went to work in a small rural community in behavioral health as a case manager. In 2003, I graduated from the University of South Carolina with a master’s degree in social work.  By 2005 completed the licensing requirements for the LCSW in North Carolina.

In my career, I have worked with children, adolescents, adults and families with a variety of needs, backgrounds and cultures-including service members and their families.  In 2007, I completed training in EMDR.  After owning a private practice for several years as a civilian, I commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force in 2011.  While serving at my duty station I provided behavioral health services to active-duty personnel and families.  This was in addition to managing Family Advocacy, ADAPT (substance abuse), Suicide Prevention and Drug Demand Reduction.   As an officer, my return to duty rate was 98 percent and there were no suicides during my tenure.  While serving our country I completed the requirements to become an EMDR certified therapist (2013).  In 2018 I obtained the certification for EMDR Approved Consultant.  After separating honorably from the service in 2016, my family and I relocated to the beautiful city of San Antonio Texas.
